My Beautiful Turkey
My memories of Turkey will always be:
of rugs unfurling . apple tea . the call to prayer echoing across the city . red poppies . Efes beer icy cold . minarets . joy . exquisite tiles painted with light . tears in ANZAC Cove . dervishes twirling – love made visible . gold script . handsome men. balloons drifting . charms against the evil eye . deep blue skies . wide smiles . a people generous and kind . fairy chimneys . swimming in blue-green silk. feeling alive . tall waving grasses . Roman ruins and Greek theatres . haunting music . the laughter of friends . belly dancing . the peace of Mary . velvety lemon ice cream . pools of bright silk . visits to the bathhouse . carved screens . falling in love . handfuls of cherries . the blue of Ataturk’s eyes
